Strength of placed block revetment in dike constructions

A numerical analysis on the strength of placed block revetments in dikes is presented. A finite element model is developped with physical and geometrical nonlinear chararcteristics. The general behaviour of the model is described and explained extensively. A short description of parameter studies is given. The results confirm that clamping forces can have a relevant positive contribution to the strength of block revetments in dikes
