Improvements and extensions to API 618 related to pulsation and mechanical response studies

conference paper
Purchasers of reciprocating compressors need a standard to help ensure reliable installations. The PNEUROP standard evolved in Europe, and the API 618 Standard in the U.S.A. Frequent application and generally good experience, worldwide, have led to four releases of API 618, the last dated June 1995. Anticipating near term review of API 618, this paper recommends and discusses refinements of the paragraphs on pulsation and vibration. The refinements reflect extensive, worldwide, experience by the author's organizations. The paper addresses allowable pulsation levels, the damper check, measurement accuracy, check valves, digital and analog simulation 2,3,4, mechanical analysis, and a supplementary tutorial.
