Prediction and validation of the Q3 child dummy airbag response

The paper describes the use of FE modeling in the design process of the new Q child dummies, in particular the upper thorax. The model has been used to optimize the design of the ribcage, by making the changes in rib mass, material thickness, properties, etc., so that the dummy response meets the design targets. With the current interest in the prevention of airbag injury of children, the model will be used to investigate the three yeat old dummy response to airbag impacts
