MADYMO: a versatile tool for vehicle safety analyses

conference paper
Numerical tools allow the designer to study more alternative concepts, reduce the number of tests for design validations and thus reduce the costs and risks of the complete design cycle. MADYMO combines multibody and finite element techniques and advanced models for restraint systems in one code. This allows the user to create models with the desired detail for the different design phases. Next to the 2D and 3D solvers also several pre- and postprocessing tolls as well as validated databases for crash dummies, pedestrian subsystems and barriers are provided. Descriptive quasi-static and dynamic tyre models based on the so-called Magic Formula are also available. The presented novel approaches like flexible bodies and facet surfaces illustrate that due to the combination of finite element and multibody techniques in one code, a versatile and efficient design tool for safety analyses has been relized. The optimization loop will make MADYMO even more effective.
