Tyre influences on untripped vehicle rollover
conference paper
Vehicle rollover can be initiated by steering actions that occur at vehicle evasive manoeuvres or high speed cornering of commercial vehicles. This untripped vehicle rollover is more difficult to reproduce for passenger cars then for commercial vehicles. For passenger cars it occurs closer to the tyre to road adhesion limit where tyres behave highly non-linear. A study in tyre properties is described, including simulations of the ATI reversed steering test. Tyre parameters have been derived from measured characteristics for a passenger car tyre under rollover conditions. Most important tyre characteristics are overturning couple and camber effects. A change in vertical stiffness due to slip forces has also its influences.
