Public transport for elderly users of personal mobility aids
conference paper
Decrease of functional ability causes many elderly to use mobility aids (i.e. walking frames, rollators, wheelchairs) for their personal mobility. For their outdoor mobility part of them relay on collective door-to-door transport. To this end, various transport systems are being used: public transport, (minibus) taxis or special transport services for elederly and disabled. When using these various types of transport, the elderly are time and again in different ways, confronted with problems in accessibility, safety and efficiency of these systems. In this paper the existing bottleneck with respect to accessibility, safety, organization and realization of transport for elderly users of personal mobility aids have been charted as well as conceivable solutions are indicated for the short, medium and long term.
