ZonWEL - Dynamic solar facade

conference paper
This paper describes an ongoing research and development project that aims at the design and production of a dynamic solar façade. The objective for this façade is to utilize solar irradiation for thermal heat, electrical power production and (day)lighting, while being able to adapt itself to changing climate conditions (day-night, seasonal changes). By doing so it will minimize the use of fossil fuel for heating and cooling purposes, and help to guarantee the indoor climate in buildings (thermal comfort, indoor air quality, lighting conditions). This paper focuses on the first stage of the research and development process, discussing the development of the brief as well as the first conceptual plans and presenting future steps
