The JCSS probabilistic model code: experience and recent developments

conference paper
The JCSS Probabilistic Model Code (JCSS-PMC) has been available for public use on the JCSS website (www.jcss.ethz.ch) for over two years. During this period, several examples have been worked out and new probabilistic models have been added. Since the engineering community has already been exposed to the aims, structure and original contents of the PMC, the present paper begins with an attempt to place current efforts in a historical context. It then highlights the features of two recently developed models for earthquake loading and fatigue of steel structures. The former deals with probabilistic seismic hazard assessment, as well as the derivation of ground motion histories and associated response. The latter condenses the experience from offshore, bridge and other related studies and presents probabilistic models for both S-N and fracture mechanics based reliability assessments. Finally, an overview of the current workplan is given.
