Connections in roofs of Venlo-type greenhouses
conference paper
Greenhouses are from a constructional point of view an assembly of structural components, which are connected to each other by several types of structural joints. Many of these joints can be designed in a traditional way using design codes such as Eurocode 3 Steel Structures, Part 1-8 Joints or Eurocode 9 Aluminium Structures. Two special types of joints cannot directly be designed with these codes, because they are composed by connecting parts, which by there peculiar shape create the connection. For Greenhouses of the Venlo-type this is the case for connections between the aluminum or steel glazing bars and the steel or aluminum gutter profiles in the eaves of the roof and between the glazing bars themselves and the aluminum ridge profiles. In this paper a procedure is described to design these glazing bar systems using the experimentally determinded structural capacities of these connections
