European standards for thermal solar systems and components. The finals
conference paper
In Europe standards for solar collectors, hot water stores and for complete thermal solar systems have been developed during the past six years. This year (2001) these European Standards were established and therefore replaced all corresponding national standards. In the new European standards basic requirements for products as well as test methods for the verification of these requirements are specified. Furthermore, test methods for the determination of the thermal performance are standardised. The target groups of the standards are the manufactures and test institutes for thermal solar systems and components.
The European standards provide an excelled basis for a uniform quality label and thus a uniform market for thermal solar systems and components in Europe. This will lead to an increase of free trade, to higher product quality and higher confidence of consumers.
The present paper gives an overview about the standards, especially with respect to the requirements and test methods. Furthermore, the expected developments in the next years are described. Consequences for the solar energy market in Europe are mentioned.
