Developments in 'Slimdek' construction
conference paper
Slimdek construction provides a steel-concrete floor construction of approximately 300mm depth which uses deep profiled decking. This paper reviews the design principles of this form of construction in accordance with Eurocodes 3 and 4, and presents the results of structural tests which have provided data for use in the design process.
Three beam tests have been carried out on the new Asymmetrie 'Slinzflor' Beam (ASB) as part of the 'Slimdek' system. and these tests demonstrate that considerable composite action can be achieved with the concrete encasement. Two major fire tests carried out in the Netherlands demonstrated that 60 min fire resistance can be achieved for slim-floor constructions, depending on the magnitude of the load level. Seven composite slab tests carried out in Germany, and three in the UK, showed that full composite action is achieved for practical loads and spans.
A further two-bay 12m x 6m floor test has provided more information on serviceability performance
