The conversion of the ENV version of Eurocode 4 into an EN is under preparation and the question was raised whether the rules and/or testing procedures for the evaluation of the longitudinal shear resistance have to be improved. In this paper an overview is given of the various aspects influencing the shear resistance. Various models are discussed and compared. Conclusions are drawn for the rules in EN1994-1-1. This paper is to be considered as a discussion paper for the further development of knowledge and as a basis for discussion in ECCS-TC11
