Configuration management in large scale infrastructure development
conference paper
Large Scale Infrastructure (LSI) development projects such as the construction of roads, rail-ways and other civil engineering (water)works is tendered differently today than a decade ago. Traditional workflow requested quotes from construction companies for construction works where the works to be per-formed were completely specified by others. Changes such as the introduction of Design-Construct contracts and Build-Operate-Transfer contracts also change the role of the construction company. The construction company becomes more of an information manager than a "concrete pourer". With Configuration Manage-ment the information will be managed more explicitly. Therefore the use of Configuration Management in Large Scale Infrastructure offers another way of working supporting the new roles of construction companies. Using Electronic Document Systems (EDMS) is a first step towards the full implementation of Configuration Management, which eventually will result in object management.
