Numerical materials science of concrete using lattice analyses

article
In 1997 the lattice model, which was developed at the Stevin laboratory of Delft University of Technology, has been incorporated as a special module in DIANA. In the lattice model, the material (or structure) is modelled as a network (lattice) of brittle breaking linear elements. The structure of the material under consideration is projected on top of the lattice, thus for concrete the particle structure or even the fibres in the material are modelled. For fracture analyses beam elements have proven to yield realistic results. The model will be part of the new 7.0 release of DIANA and can be used for the assessment of laboratory scale fracture experiments, but also for the study and design of new particles and fibre composites.
