Factors of competitive advances through ergonomics interventions
bookPart
Over the recent years TNO has made tens of cost benefit analyses of ergonomics and occupational safety and health interventions. In all cases, the evaluators had an open mind to identify the predominant factors that cause a positive or negative cost benefit ratio. In most cases the contribution to health and safety, the major reason for the ergonomics project, turns out to play a relatively small role in the financial balance. The paper is based on an analysis of eighteen cases, and aims to identify key factors for competitive advances. Ergonomists can use the outcomes to make more convincing proposals, to present the outcome of their projects with more power, and to increase the faith in their own expertise.
