The ecotherm control technology applied to MSWC
conference paper
Optimisation of municipal solid waste combustion (MSWC), processes is an important issue due to the ever-lasting need for emission reduction, more optimal use of raw materials and overall cost reduction. Due to the complexity of the MSWC process, classical optimisation strategies will lead to sub-optimal solutions. Control systems based upon mathematical models will be better able to cope with the complexity of the MSWC process and will lead to better results. This paper will discuss the concept behind the ECOTHERM (Evolutionaiy COntrol technology for sustainable THERMal) technology. The technology is based upon physical modelling as well as evolutionaiy modelling. Both modelling techniques are used within a non-linear model predictive control for short-term control regulations and an evolutionary controller for long-term control regulations. First results of the development of the technology are presented.
