Ontwikkeling van kinderen met perinatale risicofactoren: Theoretische achtergrond, literatuurgegevens en implementatie in de praktijk

article
Biological, psychological and sociological factors determine in reciprocal dynamical interaction processes the development from newborn to adult. Type and extent of perinatal risk factors is influenced by those factors and will in turn also affect the biological, psychological and sociological factors that determine, in continued dynamical interaction, future child development. The sequelae of perinatal risk factors such as immature or preterm birth and extremely low birth weight can be studied by looking at mortality or survival rates, the prevalence of serious handicaps or disabilities. or at problems in somatic, neuromotor, cognitive and social-emotional development. For a number of frequently used categories of prenatal risk factors, a review of the literature on such outcome measures is presented. Finally is indicated how such knowledge could be implemented in daily care.
