Optical measurements on shock waves in human tissue simulants
conference paper
TNO TPD and TNO PML have performed in close cooperation with the Technical University of Delft a study on optical measurement techniques on pressure in shock waves in a human tissue simulant. The study started with the investigation of applicable (optical) techniques and properties of tissue simulants. This activity was followed by a measurement program on shock waves at the Laboratory for Ballistic Research at TNO PML. Finally also optical modelling of shock waves was performed to enable quantitative interpretation of the optical measurements. The study has resulted in the selection of a few optical techniques for further elaboration and development until an operational measurement tool.
