Overview of present towed array shape and attitude estimation techniques
conference paper
TNO Physics and Electronics Laboratory (TNO-FEL) research in the field of shape and attitude modelling of towed arrays has been carried out for many years. The final aim is to perform corrected beamforming in real-time. An overview of the present status of research in the field is presented. At first, the work on array shape esgtimation alogorithms based on hydrodynamic modelling and spline techniques is addressed. Next the development at TNO-FEL in shape and attitude estimation systems for multi-line array purposes, such as the Array Location Systems (ALS) and Array Monitor Systems (AMS), will be discussed, including the means for validation during sea trials
