The ALMOST PC-model for propagation and reverberation in range dependent environments

conference paper
The ALMOST PC-mnodel is a propagation and range prediction package for operational use at the fleet. The development started in 1980 with propagation loss modelling and passive range prediction. Since 1986 reverberation modelling and active range prediction were developed. The last few years the model was extended to calculate propagation loss and reverberation for range dependent water depth and bottom properties, and latest for a varying sound velocity profile. The reverberation calculation is based on arrival times making the model fit to both deep and shallow water. For a great variety of specific sonars, range predictions can be made easily, because sonar parameter files can be attached to the package conformable to user requirements. Effects of 3D beamforming, Doppler shifts, and type of signal processing are accounted for. Results will be shown of propagation loss and reverberation calculations, and active range prediction (detection probability), for environments with range dependence of sound velocity profile, waterdepth and bottom properties.
