Artificial test eyes have been developed for a multimodal ophthalmic imaging platform. The test eyes can be used for alignment of different imaging modalities and for fluorescence channel performance testing. Different scattering and absorption characteristics can be realized in the artificial retina.

Integrating nephelometers are widely used for monitoring and research applications related to air pollution and climate. Several commercial versions of the instrument are available and are in wide use in the community. This article reports on results from a calibration and intercomparison workshop where several units of the three most widely...

The traditional test pattern for end-to-end EO system performance testing in the laboratory has been the static 3- or 4-bar target. This choice was governed by linear systems approach. The introduction of under-sampled imagers such as IRFPAs (infrared focal plane array cameras) has challenged the testing community to develop an alternative test,...

This paper describes the results and conclusions of a methodology for the assessment of environmental performance. This methodology was applied to a demonstration project conducted in the Netherlands with 10 Audi Duo parallel hybrid vehicles. During the course of the project, the vehicles were driven by a wide range of users and user groups. By...

Opportunities to streamline the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) processfor solar home systems are outlined. A streamlined CDM process would require standardised calculation of greenhouse gas emission reduction. The present report gives an overview of CO2 emission reduction figures from 8 solar home system...

This report describes the methodology and results for an assessment of environmental performance of a parallel hybrid vehicle, as well as an investigation into user experiences that may promote or hinder market introduction of this type of car. A parallel hybrid vehicle is powered either by a combustion engine or by an electric engine. For the...

The influence of the waveform of the transmitted signal on the signal to reverberation ratio of a moving sonar array is analysed on an experimental basis. Experiments were conducted during sea-trials in shallow water areas in September 98 and October 99. The aim of the trials was to compare the performance of three waveforms: frequency modulated...

Identification and recognition performance for four staring and two scanning thermal imagers, were measured in an observer experiment using images that were collected during a NATO field trial in Nettuno, Italy, in 1998. The dataset allows validation of the MRTD and alternative sensor performance measures such as the TOD (Triangle Orientation...

The Triangle Orientation Discrimination (TOD) threshold is an alternative method to characterize electro-optical system performance. The method is based on an improved test pattern, a better-defined observer task and a solid psychophysical measurement procedure, and allows accurate and comparable results from different measuring teams. With the...

Side-impact safety of passenger cars is assessed in Europe in a full-scale test using a moving barrier. The front of this barrier is deformable and represents the stiffness of an 'average' car. The EU Directive 96/27/EC on side impact protection has adopted the EEVC Side Impact Test Procedure, including the original performance specification for...

As part of the maintenance policy of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Civil Engineering Division, hydrophobic treatment of concrete was considered as an additional protective measure against penetration of aggressive substances, for instance deicing salts in bridge decks. A set of tests was designed to determine the performance of commercially...
