Sputtered transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) are widely accepted transparent electrodes for several types of high-efficiency solar cells. However, the different sputtering yield of atoms makes stoichiometric transfer of target material challenging for multi-compounds. Additionally, the high kinetic energies of the arriving species may damage...

This work aims to understand oxygen solubility in pure and aqueous amine solvents for CO2 capture. Commercially available dissolved oxygen sensors were studied to evaluate whether these can be used for measuring oxygen solubility in the carbon capture processes. It also aims to understand the possible discrepansies from realistic concentrations...

Low activation energy (Ea) and wide bandgap (Eg) are essential for (p)-contacts to achieve effective hole collection in silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells. In this work, we study Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition p-type hydrogenated nanocrystalline silicon oxide, (p)nc-SiOx:H, combined with (p)nc-Si:H as (p)-contact in front/back...

Oxidative stress aggravates the progression of lifestyle-related chronic diseases. However, knowledge and practices that enable quantifying oxidative stress are still lacking. Here, we performed a proof-of-concept study to predict the oxidative stress status in a healthy population using retrospective cohort data from Boramae medical center in...

One of the major issues encountered in the Post Combustion CO2 Capture processes is the degradation of the solvent which can be in great part attributed to the presence of oxygen in the solution. The present report focuses on the demonstration of DORA (Dissolved Oxygen Removal Apparatus), a technology developed by TNO as a counter-measure of...

This study examines two strategies—homo- and heterogeneous approaches for the light-driven oxidation of benzyl alcohol in dye-sensitised photoelectrochemical cells (DSPECs). The DSPEC consists of a mesoporous anatase TiO2 film on FTO (fluorine-doped tin oxide), sensitised with the thienopyrroledione-based dye AP11 as the photoanode and an FTO–Pt...

Vitamin B12 is a redox-active compound containing a cobalt atom that cycles between oxidation states. Superoxide scavenging induces its oxidation, disabling activation of the enzymes methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, disrupting gene expression and energy production. High-dosed vitamin B12 may be clinically used to reduce...

Significance: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is one of the three main gasotransmitters that are endogenously produced in humans and are protective against oxidative stress. Recent findings from studies focusing on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), shifted our attention to a...

Green zones are challenging problems for the thermal management systems of hybrid vehicles. This is because within the green zone the engine is turned off, and the only way to keep the aftertreatment system warm is lost. This means that there is a risk of leaving the green zone with a cold and ineffective aftertreatment system, resulting in high...

Electrons and holes confined in quantum dots define excellent building blocks for quantum emergence, simulation, and computation. Silicon and germanium are compatible with standard semiconductor manufacturing and contain stable isotopes with zero nuclear spin, thereby serving as excellent hosts for spins with long quantum coherence. Here, we...

Sub-micrometer thin-film transistors (TFTs) are realized using multi-level imprint lithography. Amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (α-IGZO) TFTs with channel lengths as small as 0.7 μm, field-effect mobility of 10 cm2 V−1 s−1 and on/off ratio of circa 107 were integrated into a 1000-pixels per inch (ppi) TFT backplane array. The thin-film-transistor (TFT) technology has attracted significant attention in account of the possibility to manufacture transistors on large and flexible substrates, at low processing temperatures and at a low cost. Next to the well-established amorphous silicon TFT technology used mostly for displays, the amorphous Indium-Gallium-Zinc-Oxide ...

Establishing the color of incident light is essential for many applications, such as machine vision, but generally requires either a dispersive component or multiple spectrally selective photodetectors. In contrast, here an incident spectrum is parametrized using a single broadband organic photodiode (OPD). This is achieved by exploiting the...

This paper presents a new compensation principle using a 2T1C pixel circuit. The implementation shows significant improvement in uniformity for all grey-levels, due to compensation for both VT and β-factor variations. The resulting current variation after compensation in the characterized display area reaches values down to 0.079%.
