In this article the feasibility and benefits of tacked-FET structures in a state-of-art GaN technology are investigated. Trade-offs between output power, efficiency and stability are made to yield stable, high performance devices. The results of three S-band GaN stacked-FET structures in the UMS GH25-10 technology are given. These structures are...

A state-of-the-art, second harmonically tuned, 400 W S-band MMIC power amplifier has been developed. This amplifier delivers in the 2.8 – 3.3 GHz band an output power of 400 W and a PAE between 50-55%. The obtained amplifier performance is the result of the structured design approach discussed in this paper.

We review recent compact modeling solutions for Organic and Amorphous Oxide TFTs (OTFTs and AOS TFTs, respectively), which were developed, under the framework of the EU-funded project DOMINO, to address issues specifically connected to the physics of these devices. In particular, using different approaches, analytical equations were formulated...

Quantum computers (QC), comprising qubits and a classical controller, can provide exponential speed-up in solving certain problems. Among solid-state qubits, transmons and spin-qubits are the most promising, operating ≪ 1K. A qubit can be implemented in a physical system with two distinct energy levels representing the |0⟩ and |1⟩ states, e.g....

A widely-used quantum programming paradigm comprises of both the data flow and control flow. Existing quantum hardware cannot well support the control flow, significantly limiting the range of quantum software executable on the hardware. By analyzing the constraints in the control microarchitecture, we found that existing quantum assembly...

Image-based Electro-Optical system simulation including an end-to-end performance test is a powerful tool to characterize a camera system before it has been built. In particular, it can be used in the design phase to make an optimal trade-off between performance on the one hand and SWaPC (Size, Weight, Power and Cost) criteria on the other....

Quantum communication brings radically new capabilities that are provably impossible to attain in any classical network. Here, we take the first step from a physics experiment to a fully fledged quantum internet system. We propose a functional allocation of a quantum network stack and construct the first physical and link layer protocols that...

The manufacturing of radar front-ends is preferably performed with components that are fully tested and known to be functional. This decreases the chances of instant failure or rapid degradation of the system. Complete testing of the RF-performance of the individual MMICs, however, is not always possible due to technical, infrastructural or...

The application of stacked-FETs in power ampli fiers allows for a supply voltage higher than supported by the breakdown voltage of a single transistor. Potential benefits of the increased supply voltage are reduced supply currents and a lower matching ratio at the output of the amplifier. Furthermore, an increased output power per chip area is...

This paper describes a fractional-N PLL IC with absolute phase control utilizing an on-chip loop-filter. The frequency range is 2.6 to 3.5 GHz, which covers one of the bands for future low-band 5G telecommunication systems. For phased-array operation a compact form-factor is needed as the space available for the complete front-end is limited by...

A small-signal model of a Gallium Nitride (GaN) Field Effect Transistor (FET) is created which consists of a compact linear model of the intrinsic gate fingers and an Electro-Magnetic (EM)-based model of the extrinsic part. Accurate scaling of transistor size is obtained which means that larger transistors than supported by standard (foundry)...

Hyperbolic metamaterials (HMMs) are anisotropic materials with a permittivity tensor that has both positive and negative eigenvalues. Here we report that by using a type II HMM as a cladding material, a waveguide that only supports higher-order modes can be achieved, while the lower-order modes become leaky and are absorbed in the HMM cladding....
