Two different external compensation methods for high-resolution active matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays are presented and compared. Both compensation methods are implemented using a small pixel circuit, namely, a 3T2C and a 2T1C pixel circuit, allowing high-resolution displays. Due to the simple driving schemes, these...

This paper presents a new compensation principle using a 2T1C pixel circuit. The implementation shows significant improvement in uniformity for all grey-levels, due to compensation for both VT and β-factor variations. The resulting current variation after compensation in the characterized display area reaches values down to 0.079%.

In this work, we demonstrate a capacitive coupled data transfer with flexible thin-film electronics using touchscreen as ubiquitous reader interface. The capacitive communication to the touchscreen is proven using a 64-bit metal-oxide thin-film capacitive-coupled identification tag. The tag is powered by a thin film battery or thin-film...

Thin-film transistor (TFT) technologies have long been used predominantly for display fabrication and are attractive for large area, low cost and flexible circuit applications. Thanks to the improving performance of thin-film metal-oxide NFC tags and data processing chips on foil [1], [2], fabs are considering the large-scale production of...

Patterning organic materials by photolithography enables not only high-resolution, side-by-side RGB OLED arrays, but also the introduction of organic photodetector in the same frontplane. We show patterned active matrix displays processed on flexible backplane. Furthermore, we demonstrate OPD patterning proof-of-concept. These are the building...

A novel external VT compensation method, using a simple driving scheme, is presented, enabling high resolution, yet uniform displays, regardless of the size. The uniformity can be maintained for initial VT nonuniformities as well as VT shifts occurring during operation, like bias stress. The characterized display area shows a significant...

The Internet of Things is driving extensive efforts to develop intelligent everyday objects. This requires seamless integration of relatively simple electronics, for example through ‘stick-on’ electronics labels. We believe the future evolution of this technology will be governed by Wright’s Law, which was first proposed in 1936 and states that...

We ink-jet print a blend of 6,13-bis(triisopropyl-silylethynyl)pentacene and polystyrene as the active layer for flexible circuits. The discrete ink-jet printed transistors exhibit a saturation mobility of 0.5 cm2 V -1 s-1. The relative spread in transistor characteristics can be very large. This spread is due to the morphology of the TIPS-PEN...

The ambition of printing item-level RFID tags is one of the driving forces behind printed electronics research. Organic RFID tags have been shown, initially using p-type organic semiconductors [1-4]. The introduction of n-type organic semiconductors with reasonable performance made organic CMOS conceivable [5] and organic CMOS RFID tags were...

Dual-gate organic transistor technology is used to increase the robustness of digital circuits as illustrated by higher inverter gains and noise margins. The additional gate in the technology functions as a VT-control gate. Both zero-VGS-load and diode-load logic are investigated. The noise margin of zero- VGS-load inverter increases from 1.15 V...
