Abstract
Government, E&P and mining industry increasingly demand fundamental insight and accurate predictions on subsurface and surface deformation and damage due to exploitation of subsurface natural resources, and subsurface storage of energy residues (e.g. CO2). At this moment deformation is difficult to assess and prove, although economical, environmental and societal interests are huge in terms of strain on granting concessions, failure of exploration targets, (potential) damage claims etc. NITG-TNO, the geoscience institute of TNO, and TNO-BOUW, the building and construction institute of TNO have started a close cooperation on this topic. In the next 3 years integrated technological products will be built and applied to case studies. The cooperation builds from leading edge geomechanical expertise from NITG-BOUW, in particular the world-leading geomechanical code DIANA, combined with leading edge expertise in integrated 3D geoscience modelling approaches from NITG-TNO. This paper outlines the project objectives and gives an overview of the current results.
