Passchier, I. Wedemeijer, H. Bours, R. Publication year 2014 Abstract Cooperative systems require the presence of multiple cooperative ITS stations to be effective and able to cooperate. Testing a single cooperative vehicle or road side unit will require a large number of other cooperative vehicles. Equipping additional test vehicles is expensive on hardware, drivers, and test facilities. It is also time consuming for installation and updating, and to organize test vehicles and drivers for running test scenarios. The Dutch Integrated Test site for Cooperative Mobility (DITCM) provides a cost and time efficient alternative to test a single cooperative vehicle in daily traffic with any penetration rate of cooperative vehicles. Cooperative messages are emulated from real time monitoring of normal vehicles driving on the same public road in the vicinity of the test vehicle. These messages are emulated and broadcasted in real time to the test vehicle to provide a cooperative awareness that fully consistent with its onboard sensor data and traffic situation.
