Abstract
From August 24-29, 2003 in Seoul, Korea the XVth Triennial Congress of the International Ergonomics Association and the 7th Joint Conference of Ergonomics Society of Korea / Japan Ergonomics Society were held. The central theme was "Ergonomics in the digital age". The theme of this paper is enhancing the impact of ergonomic interventions. Within the ergonomics community it is a common belief that the work of ergonomists contributes to the social goals of an organization by the protection of worker’s health as well as to the economic goals in terms of productivity and quality. Although in most organizations productivity and quality are principal business goals, the contributions of the discipline of ergonomics are not yet widely recognized by the business community; and if so, ergonomics is usually applied in a too late stage and with a too limited scope. Researchers and consultants who are planning or executing an ergonomics project to develop and implement ergonomics solutions are often confronted with critical questions from management, workers and other parties that interfere with the project.
