Abstract
During the past decade, several cases of damage of concrete structures due to alkali-silica reaction, ASR, have been diagnosed, detected, reported or published in The Netherlands [Heijnen and Larbi, 1999]. The structures involved include bridges, locks, balconies and viaducts (see Figure 1). This called for a critical review of the existing measures drawn in the Dutch CUR-Recommendation 38 in 1994 to prevent damage due to ASR in the concrete
