Abstract
This book is one result of a study commissioned by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions into national health and safety policies and strategies in thirteen member states of the European Union. The goal of the study was to produce an overview and assessment of the policies and strategies for improving working conditions related to health and safety in the thirteen countries. Its aims were: to identify at appropriate levels policies intended to achieve healthy working conditions; to assess the impact of these policies on occupational accidents and diseases, absenteeism, performance, and human and social costs; to highlight the role of the social partners in these policies; to identify facilitating factors and obstacles in relation to these policies; to consider future trends and developments of policies and strategies intended to achieve healthy working conditions.
