The objective was to compare key parameters in modelling techniques and assump-tions for finite element (FE) analysis. Five contributors participated in the bench-mark study by performing numerical simulations, and results were compared with available results from experimental tests. Good agreement between experi-mental tests and numerical simulations was achieved which illustrates that non-linear finite element analysis can be used to estimate the damage extent in grounding scenarios. In addition, a sensitivity study was performed in order to investigate the effect of varying different parameters such as friction coefficient and failure strain values.
