Abstract
This volume contains the proceedings of a symposium on "Socio-economic health differences" which was held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on February 1st, 1991. The aim of the symposium was to present the first results of a Dutch research programme on inequalities in health. The programme started in 1989 and will last until the end of 1993. Central items were: the impact of socio-economic status on work disability: a longitudinal analysis; social inequality in chronic diseases and related disabilities and use of health care services; interest in the issue of health differences in the Netherlands from 1850-1990: results and a preliminary explanation. International themes were: the World Health Organization and equity in health; trends in socio-economic differentials in health in the United Kingdom; inequality in health in Sweden: the present state of affairs.
