Santoclides, M.E Publication year 2017 Abstract This policy brief on Social Innovation of Employment informs on an inventory of challenges and policy recommendations based on the Case Study Report of Employment and on the Second Policy Foresight Workshop of Employment. A ‘paradigm shift’ is needed in the mind-set of policymakers. ‘Traditional’ employment strategies for youth employment and vulnerable groups are underusing how social innovation could help, and how it can bring new actors at the stage. Social entrepreneurship creates jobs and provides experience but it has a bad image and remains underused. Workplace innovation can improve employability and sustainable jobs but it not fully recognised as a useful social innovation to alleviate employment issues. Policymakers must ‘open their eyes’ and help create the infrastructure for social innovations: a ‘social innovation friendly environment’.
