Abstract
This paper describes part 4 of ATOMOS II task 1.2.3 'Workplace design, guidelines and design tools' for a Ship Control Centre (SCC). The main objective of subtask 1.2.3 was to design a general layout for a future ship control centre of a chemical tanker. During this design process, compro-mises must be made between technical solutions and human factors requirements. As a consequence, the design cannot be optimal in all its aspects. Therefore, the design has to be thoroughly evaluated. This has been carried out using different techniques: human modelling systems and virtual environ-ment techniques. This paper presents the final layout of standardised SCC, taking into account all recommendation which arose from the evaluations. Furthermore, this paper gives an overview of the techniques to integrate human factors engineering in the design process of SCCs.
Dit paper beschrijft het ergonomisch ontwerpproces van de brug van een chemicalientanker. Aandacht wordt met name gesteed aan de evaluatie.
