Abstract
At the latest by May 10th 2010, Directive 2006/25/EC regarding the exposure of workers to risks arising from artificial optical radiation must be implemented by all EU-member states, thus legally adopting ICNIRP limit values for ultraviolet, visible and infrared radiation. For IUVA-members the UV-range is most relevant. To prevent acute (skin: erythema; eyes: photokeratitis) and long term effects (skin: accelerated skin aging, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma; eyes: cataract), the effective radiant exposure Heff (weighted dose) daily (8 h) limit value is 30 J m-2. Additionally the unweighted daily UVAdose HUVA shall not exceed 104 J m-2.
