High NOx emissions of heavy-duty vehicles driving in urban areas and directions for a real driving emissions test
report
Evaluation of a large dataset with real-world emissions of Euro VI heavy-duty vehicles showed that, despite the progress made in controlling average NOx emissions, these vehicles have much higher NOx emissions when operating
in urban environment. A direction is suggested to address the problem of high NOx emissions of driving on urban roads. Regulation of NOx emissions of heavy-duty vehicles should explicitly include all normal driving conditions in the on-road emissions test using PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement System). This is presently not the case.
