Abstract
Today’s military organizations have to become increasingly adaptable in order to deal adequately with complex and uncertain circumstances. In order to increase adaptability, interventions are required at both organizational and individual level. To be able to evaluate these interventions, adaptive performance should be made measurable. Pulakos, Donovan and Plamondon (2000) developed a taxonomy for adaptive performance consisting of eight dimensions. The focus of the study to be presented was to evaluate whether the proposed taxonomy of dimensions could be recognized in the Dutch military context. The aim is to classify job function groups into various types of adaptability dimensions. Therefore, the eight dimensions were operationalized into a 64-item questionnaire. This version of the questionnaire (Military Individual Adaptability index) was completed by 128 people with varying civil jobs as a first validation. The factor structure and reliability were investigated and 6 of the 8 dimensions could be found back in the data. Significant differences on dimensions between several job function groups were found with an analysis of variance (ANOVA). Two weeks later 108 people completed the questionnaire again to assess the testretest reliability. The next step is to validate the MIA in the military domain which is planned to be finished before the IMTA 2015.
