Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop a multi-level resilience analysis method (RAM) to assess risk and performance variability in current maritime socio-technical systems (STSs). The method integrates Hollnagel’s four resilience abilities to assess a system’s ability to effectively cope with disturbances and changes within the system. The RAM builds upon and extends existing methods. The method defines various system components of the STS on different hierarchical levels including control and feedback loops. It im-proves understanding of performance variability and associated strategies of all relevant users within the STS. A questionnaire assesses performance on the four resilience abilities. Future work will concentrate on validat-ing the questionnaire and making the method applicable for prospective and design analysis as well. The method will be part of the future SEAHORSE virtual platform for assessing and improving resilience.
