Abstract
Various changes have put the retention of knowledge within Rijkswaterstaat (the executive agency of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure) under pressure in the past years. For crucial objects such as the storm surge barriers, a loss of knowledge is not acceptable and is hence addressed in multiple ways. This paper focuses on the context, content and results of the workshop “Failure probability and PDCA”, which was developed for teams working on the management and maintenance of the storm surge barriers and aims at strengthening their cooperation in achieving their joint objective: a reliable storm surge barrier. It is a successful workshop which leads to more insight and improved cooperation. For a large part, this is due to the non-conventional design. At the IALCCE 2018 conference, part of the workshop, the serious game “Flood barrier in control?!” can be played by the conference visitors. We wish you much fun and inspiration!
