Abstract
This paper deals with the design and the analysis of planar circularly symmetric (PCS) EBG structures. The analysis is concentrated on TM excitations. To obtain simple design rules for the PCS-EBG's, an equivalence is established between 2D-EBG's and PCS-EBG's. he dispersion equations are investigated first. The 2D problems are studied by means of their dispersion equations. Then, the guidelines to optimize the bandwidth and attenuation of 2D EBG's under TM excitation are provided.
