Abstract
Commissioned by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, TNO Work and Employment has made a review of existing literature with the following objectives: to gather the most relevant findings from research on the link between forms of work organisation, working conditions and the quality of work; to provide further information in this field in order to advance the debate on the results of the Foundation's Third Survey on Working Conditions; to identify the relevant paths to be followed by the Foundation in future research in the area of working conditions. This report is a result and focuses on the relationship between new forms of work and working conditions and the impact on the quality of work. It looks in particular at the effects on workers' physical and mental health, safety, working time, lifelong learning, job security, job satisfaction and job control. It concludes that satisfaction with working life in Europe is determined by factors such as the pattern and duration of working time, the pace of work, job content and job autonomy.
