Abstract
This paper describes the safety impact assessment methodology that is developed and used for the evaluation of in-car ITS applications in the interactIVe project. InteractIVe is a project in the EU’s 7th framework program that develops new advanced driver assistance systems aimed at improving traffic safety. The safety assessment uses the results of the technical and userrelated tests in the project as well as other data sources to provide estimation on the applications’ effects on road fatalities and injuries in Europe. The method builds on the assessment method that was used in the projects eIMPACT and PreVAL. In interactIVe it is aimed to refine this method by considering more detailed accident types, by breaking down the safety mechanisms into smaller contributing factors, and by improving the method for scaling up results for individual vehicles to the entire fleet
